Statement of the director:
My name is Ruairi Bradley, and I am a filmmaker from Belfast. My directorial debut, WE BEG TO DIFFER, is a creative documentary that immerses audiences into the community of underground "differs," a group of people who have found healing through their illegal hobby.
The film takes an observational approach but attempts to create a heightened sense of reality inspired by Werner Herzog’s concept of ecstatic truth. My aim with this film was to uncover a deeper truth beyond the surface and allow audiences to experience the highs and lows with its members, putting them in the passenger seat as they get to understand what it means to be a differ.
