For over 30 years, Fabrizio Collini has worked diligently for a German carmaker before going and killing a man, seemingly on a whim. It's a nightmare for lawyer Caspar Leinen, who takes over his case as a court-assigned lawyer: The victim, respected industrialist Jean-Baptiste Meyer, is the grandfather of his high-school sweetheart Johanna. Everything in this spectacular case seems to be working against the inexperienced lawyer:
Caspar Leinen is personally involved, has a client who won't talk to him, and an opponent who seems far superior in legendary prosecutor Professor Richard Mattinger. When he decides to tackle the case anyway, he starts uncovering one of the greatest legal scandals ever, stretching back to World War II. But how much is he willing to sacrifice to expose the truth?

Statement of the Director/s
THE COLLINI CASE was a film that was deeply important to me in its narrative pursuit of justice. How many of us were aware of the fact, that the representatives of the Federal Republic of Germany burdened themselves, and thereby burdened the public, with so much additional guilt? Earnest cinema is still possible and the film's accomplishment as one of the most successful new releases of the year and its popularity with audiences proves this. Not only for the German audience, but thanks to the many international sales, the international audience will soon be captivated as well.
Biography of the Director/s
Marco Kreuzpaintner was born in a village near Rosenheim in 1977. After studying Art History in Salzburg, he worked from 1998 onwards as an assistant to the directors Peter Lilienthal and Edgar Reitz. In 1999, he first attracted attention at film festivals with his short film debut, ENTERING REALITY, with August Diehl and August Zirner. His collaboration with Diehl continued in the short film, DER ATEMKÜNSTLER, which was nominated for the "First Steps" Young Talent Award in 2001.
Kreuzpaintner's first feature film, BREAKING LOOSE, about the life of a young leg amputee was released in 2003. His coming-of-age and coming out comedy, SUMMERSTORM, premiered at the Munich Film Festival in 2004 and won the Audience Award there. Starring Robert Stadlober and Kostja Ullmann, the film was invited to 50 film festivals around the globe.
Roland Emmerich was so impressed by Kreuzpaintner's talent that he entrusted him with directing the Centropolis production of TRADE. Kevin Kline and Alicja Bachleda played the leads in the film about child trafficking shot at locations in the USA and Mexico. The world premiere took place at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007. Kreuzpaintner subsequently directed the Otfried Preußler adaptation KRABAT in Romania and Germany, with David Kross, Christian Redl, Daniel Brühl and Robert Stadlober in the leads. The lavish production became one of the biggest box-office hits of 2008 with more than 1.8 million cinema-goers. KRABAT won the Bavarian Film Prize and was nominated for the German Film Award in several categories.
In 2009, Kreuzpaintner founded the production company Summerstorm Entertainment in Berlin, making the comedy COMING IN for it in 2014. He made a critically acclaimed TV debut with the award-winning "Polizeiruf 110" episode, "Und Vergib Uns Unsere Schuld", which was broadcast in January 2016 and also proved to be a great hit with the audience posting almost 9 million viewers. His thriller SANFT SCHLÄFT DER TOD was broadcast in October of the same year and nominated for the German Crime Fiction Award. Most recently, Kreuzpaintner realised the seven-part streaming series, BEAT starring Jannis Niewöhner, Karoline Herfurth, Christian Berkel and Alexander Fehling, which first appeared on Amazon Prime Video in November 2018 and received a Grimme Award nomination in 2019.
