Ingrid, an elegant doctor, works in a remote district hospital in the mid-1980s. Trapped in an exhausting marriage and a stagnant career, she devotes most of her time to her patients. She delivers babies and performs abortions. She also carries out sterilizations on Romani women - without them fully understanding the consequences. A new friendship with Agáta, a young and free-spirited orderly, compels Ingrid to see things in a different light. Will she begin to question the rules she has so far followed with indifference? This compelling drama opens up an unresolved chapter of Czechoslovak history, when the state decided who could and could not have children.
