A radio journalist has to prepare a report compromising an activist of the strike committee named Tomczyk in the Gdańsk Shipyard. He manages to get to the shipyard area, which is occupied by the workers. The hectic summer of 1980 continues. The journalist meets a friend who tells him about Tomczyk, a college friend. He also manages to get a pass to see Tomczyk's interned wife, Agnieszka, and visits the family of an old union activist. Influenced by these meetings, he decides to reject the order.
