JAK BYC KOCHANA
Poland, 1962
Feature Film
Felicja, a mature woman and actress, recalls her tragic love from the occupation period during a flight to Paris. She hid a friend from the theatre at her house, they had previously played Ophelia and Hamlet on stage. During the war, there was no time for that. After WWII, Felicja played in totally different plays, more bourgeois. However, that secret and unhappy relationship was still in her heart. Together with FAREWELLS and GOODBYE TO THE PAST, the film creates a melodramatic triptych of Has from the period of the Polish School. Unlike the films of Wajda or Munk, Has presented an intimate approach to war issues, from a civil perspective. However, in the case of the heroine, the perspective was not less heroic. Maria Kornatowska, a film critic, even considered Has's film better than ASHES AND DIAMONDS due to the fact that it presented a woman - "an unknown soldier of the war".
