COP SECRET is a love letter to the 90´s action movies and was 10 years in the making.

Back in 2011, we made a spoof trailer for a comedy show about a supercop in denial about his sexuality and it became an internet hit. After that, we decided to write the whole movie. We felt it was a fresh concept and more importantly, a chance to make an Icelandic action movie. In a tiny country where the cops don´t carry guns - supervillains, car chases and one-liners tend to feel out of place. But if you turn things into a comedy, anything goes! We soon found out that even though the idea was to have fun we needed to take the core concept of the movie seriously. 90 minutes of action spoof scenes would feel like a dragged-out comedy sketch, so we strongly felt that the heart and soul of the movie would come from our main characters' emotional struggles.

We are dealing with sensitive issues and we wanted to do it right and with respect. Our film is about a man with a certain idea of his status in society and while facing his own prejudices he comes to terms with his own feelings while dealing with the batshit crazy Rikki Ferrrari and his violent gang. This is a modern take on the very macho 90´s action movies and an attempt to shine a light on some important issues while having lots of fun along the way. The cast and crew had a blast making this film. It was a dream come true for me and the core team, many of them being some of Iceland's most popular comedians. The passion from everybody involved was palpable and people poured their hearts and soul into every frame of this film.

I am so thankful and privileged to have worked with this amazing crew and cast who made this rollercoaster ride a reality. Making this movie in the middle of covid (and during a football season - but that´s another story) was stressful, exhausting, devastating, exhilarating, nerve racking, crazy, hilarious and fun. All essential ingredients if you are to assemble an over-the-top romantic action comedy from Iceland with a queer twist. That´s something you are not going to be seeing every day.

Biography of the Director/s
Hannes Halldórsson is a film director and a former professional football player. Originally from Reykjavik, for 15 years Hannes lived a double life as a filmmaker and professional footballer, playing in Norway, Denmark, Netherlands and Azerbaijan.

He was a member of the Icelandic national team where he was capped 77 times and appeared at UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

In 2021, he directed, co-wrote, and co-edited his first feature film LEYNILÖGGA (COP SECRET). The film has traveled to festivals worldwide and had its world premiere at Locarno film festival and was nominated for the Golden Leopard. At Lubeck Film Festival he was awarded the Best First Feature Award.
