Back in Berlin, where the European Film Awards take place every second year, the 32nd edition saw the great success of the British-Irish co-production THE FAVOURITE which won European Film and Comedy, Director for Yorgos Lanthimos, Actress for Olivia Colman, Cinematography for Robbie Ryan, Editing for Yorgos Mavropsaridis, Costume Design for Sandy Powell and Make-up & Hair for Nadia Stacey.

European Discovery - Prix FIPRESCI went to LES MISÉRABLES (France) by Ladj Ly, European Documentary to FOR SAMA (UK, USA) by Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts, European Animated Feature Film to BUÑUEL IN THE LABYRINTH OF THE TURTLES (Spain, the Netherlands) by Salvador Simó, and European Short Film to THE CHRISTMAS GIFT (Romania, Spain) by Bogdan Mureşanu.

Antonio Banderas took home European Actor for his performance in PAIN AND GLORY which also won European Production Design for Antxon Gómez and Céline Sciamma European Screenwriter for PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE which also received the European University Film Award.

Further awards went to SYSTEM CRASHER (John Gürtler for Original Score), A TWELVE-YEAR NIGHT (Eduardo Esquide, Nacho Royo-Villanova and Laurent Chassaigne for Sound) and ABOUT ENDLESSNESS (Martin Ziebell, Sebastian Kaltmeyer, Néha Hirve, Jesper Brodersen and Torgeir Busch for Visual Effects).
